Kanye West helped Kim Kardashian accept Bruce Jenner's gender identity

This story refers to Bruce Jenner with his birth name and male pronouns, because he has not yet indicated that he prefers a new name or pronoun.
Bruce Jenner's announcement that he is transitioning to a woman was not the most surprising news that emerged from his interview with Diane Sawyer on Friday night.
That honor went to Kanye West, when Jenner revealed it was West who urged wife Kim Kardashian to accept her stepdad's decision.
Jenner said Kim was the first of the Kardashian clan to find out about his gender identity, accidentally walking in on Jenner wearing a dress years ago. When Jenner recently shared his decision with his children, he said many of them took it difficultly and needed time to fully embrace it.
For Kim, it was her husband who changed her point of view.
"You know what really turned me around thinking about this? Kanye," Jenner recounts Kim telling him.
According to Jenner, West told his wife: "Look, I can be married to the most beautiful woman in the world, and I am. I can have the most beautiful little daughter in the world, and I have that. But I'm nothing if I can't be me; if I can't be true to myself, they don't mean anything."
Following those words, Kim began to understand and encourage Jenner's decision — ultimately, Jenner says, providing him with women's fashion advice.
Twitter users were pleased to hear about West's unprejudiced viewpoint — but they were equally stunned, considering West's penchant for saying bombastic and egotistical things that have earned him negative press coverage.
